Easy Cheese Grits

Makes 6 servings; 1/2 cup each serving

INGREDIENTS


  • 2 2/3 cups water
  • 1 Tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup grits stone ground, quick cooking, or regular
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 ¼ cup low-fat cheddar cheese, shredded

DIRECTIONS


  1. Wash your hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds.
  2. Bring water, butter and salt to boil in a medium saucepan.
  3. Add the grits to the boiling water using a whisk. Lower the heat to simmer and cover the pot.  Cook grits according to package directions.   
  4. When grits are done, stir in black pepper, garlic powder and cheese.  Stir until blended.
  5. Refrigerate leftovers within 2 hours.
